Hey guys,

im coming to the end of my SKY contract, and am considering (from help with some forum members, thank you!) of going for broadband on its own, and using NOW TV for my sport, entertainment and movies.

How are they? bad? good? reliable? any input would be great!

thanks!

Absolutely fine if you’re using the Nowtv app on your smart tv.

You need to pay an extra £5 on top if you want 1080p streaming though otherwise everything is in 720p.

Haven't tried the full hd now tv but the 720 video PQ has been fine for the multiple contracts I've run (h264 codec I suspect)

... however it is the sound quality that is rubbish it was(still is?) 2.0 @100 odd Kb/s AAC, I don't believe they have a 5.1 option at a decent bitrate either.
Listening to TWD was a bit miserable.

You get 5.1 as well as HD for your £5 boost I think.
Yes 5.1 last time I had it. No Dolby Digital Plus/Atmos etc.
Sky not very competitive on that compared to Netflix, Disney etc.
Always seemed like a mickey take asking another £5 for the bare minimum elsewhere.

Check it is available for your smart TV beforehand though, having to use the PS5 app as there is no app available for my philips smart tv, can't use the phone app to stream to the tv either, it's all locked out by Sky :(

It's also very prone to lockups, streaming will regularly pause for no reason at all and lock the entire app up until it finally decides to throw an error at you, can happily watch Netflix/Disney/Prime with no issues but NowTV I can almost guarantee at least one lockup per episode.

I used to use NowTV for SkySports a few years back. It's OK but the picture quality isn't great, at the time it was only 720p and 30fps.

I'd use it in a pinch if I had no choice but I wouldn't want to go from having SkySports in UHD&HDR in 60fps to 720p/30fps.

It's absolutely fine with boost (and I guess with TV upscaling). You can also spread across 5 devices.

The one thing I would warn you about though is if you get everything available on Now it's probably the same price as Sky (I think about £55/month) but I've never had actual Sky so that's just a guess.

Also cancel your Now TV sub every few months and you will get an offer to renew for a reduced price for a couple of months. Rinse and repeat.

I use it for F1 mainly. Absolutely fine for me, using Boost for HD. I think it runs a bit slow / is a little clunky in terms of the UI but that's a minor annoyance.

thanks, @Captain .

that's a bit of a bummer, but still, had a look at the interface on my smart TV with NOW preloaded, and seems quite decent.

The value is astonishing tbh on NOW TV!

is there anyway to record and watch later for NOW TV? like right now I use my SKY box to archive in advance..
you've got catch up on entertainment programmes ?

value depends if they have content you genuinely watch - you can get entertainment for £4/month-6months (after looking at web voucher offers this evening) but I don't know what I'd currently watch.

That’s true. Catch up is a good option..

I am mainly after the sports, and to be fair I don’t usually record, more watch live anyways!!
