I wanted to play some TF2 before I sleep, but it keeps saying "steam servers too busy to handle your request" and it's been saying it for 10+ minutes. I'm on Virgin Media.

How's steam for you right now? :(

edit; only seems to affect valve games - ETQW demo works

I got the same message last week (Virgin media). You should delete the clientreigistry.blob file or whatever its called in your steam directory.

2 problems I've got with Steam since moving to Vista:

- Firstly, it never auto-downloads, despite being told to. All games just sit on "Downloading 0%" and you have to double click, as if to launch them, at which point they start downloading

- When you open Steam, the 'Store' page doesn't work. You have to click on another tab, then back to the Store tab, then it loads the page.

Nothing major, just annoying.

yeah i had it happen a month ago or so but since then been fine

Is it true what I hear about people having had their accounts discontinued by Valve for no reason, without having used cheats/hacks or anything?

I was about to buy Orange Box, but if this sort of thing really happens I'm thinking I should open a new Steam account to buy it through, so that if one is banned I don't lose every game I ever bought through them. Would this be a good idea?

steam has been very annoying for me recently. the friends list takes 5 minutes to load (i only have about 6 people on it) and my games never auto-update either.

Also, the ingame chat (steam community) is completely messed up, taking 30 seconds to open, then won't close. if it does close i can't actually play because the game stops tracking the cursor.

very annoying.

BLAME VIRGIN MEDIA!

Sorry, Ive had a month of hell from them. 4mbit line with download speeds of 300k! pings of 300+! no way in hell ive been able to play anything. at one point we were getting 24k down! Id blame Virgin. Somehow somewhere they have made a big booboo with there networks! Took a month to get a "there is a problem with your internet" confirmation email....

I am with virgin media and they have been nothing but brilliant tbh, from sites like gamershell and multiplay i always get speeds in excess of 2000KB/s

if its so crap pick up the phone and ring them, you get the money refunded back etc. theyll send a techie out, my stuff all started dying and he came round and figured out the line had been corroded on one of the walls(flat was crap before it got done up for us moving in) and probs sorted within 30minutes.. this was the morning after i had rang at 6pm or so.

steam has always been an unrealiable heap of ****, always will be. Friends is down 75% of the time.

not being funny or anything, but you talk **** mate.
if that was the case no1 would use it or buy off it, valves profits say otherwise.
for it to not work 9 times out of 10 well... or be unavailable that much.. are you sure you even have an internet connection? Maybe it can only handle the traffic of submitting forum posts or something..?

For a year and a half my ability to connect to the steam network has been up the spout. It keeps forgetting my password, and have to keep resetting it. Sometimes that doesn't work however.

Have disabled all firewalls, anti intrusion, cleared blacklists, added all ports needed, deleted files in steam directory and the app folder and still no joy. Keep being told unable to process request or whatever.

It was working fine for 2 weeks (but never played anything on it), now I have been given an x850xt by a friend, just typically it stopped working again a few days before hand, so I can't play TF2.

Seriously, i used to like the steam thing, but I wouldn't want to waste my money, as I can't play the games if I can't log in.

Oh, i'm with Eclipse internet, no idea if that has anything to do with my connection problems to steam (Dutch telecom apparently block steam for some bizarre reason, not sure who eclipse route through?). I am also using NAT, and always have, without having problems with Steam before it started going wierd over a year and a half ago.

p.s. It was working fine for over a year before it started being a pain in the arse for no reason. Everything else works fine on my system.
