I'm reluctant to spend more than £500, I want to the option to play games but am not a big gamer and I would like it to be very quiet. 500GB is plenty of space. I may consider overclocking but i'm sure 3.00g will prove to be more than enough.

Can anyone offer any improvements on this setup? Is it worth getting PC2-8500??

im afraid that is the on-going debate on the forums

some will argue that as games become multi-threaded - can use more then 1 core then the quad will be better in the long run, while some argue that faster core speed is better.

what else do you do with the PC?

Surf the web, programming and some DVD ripping/copying.

i'd swap the mobo to a p35, something like the abit ip35-e/ip35.

if you want quiet go for a case with 120mm fans all round rather than 80mm, something like the antec sonata 3, has 120mm fans and they have speed controllers on the current fans.

I noticed the IP35 are a big choice for those OC'ing the Q6600.

Whatever you do you are going to have to get a better psu. 380w will not be enough to power that lot, especially as you will be clocking it. The Earthwatts is a good psu, you just need a more powerful one. Just like the case and psu suggested above.

How about this
