Hey guys... I want to do something similar to this... I was wondering what is used to make the light uniform at the back?

You can use diffused light, or a wide angle LED. Even a cold cathode.

Sometimes you use an opal finish plastic which diffuses the light, or 2 types of plastic, a transparent orange for the colour, and a diffused sheet to help spread the light.

Several SMDs behind a coloured piece of perspex?

It's probably this.

To replicate this though would be tricky with surface mount components unless you can make your own PCB.

An alternative would be to use SMD LED strips and cut to fit, then put something to further diffuse the light and then something to tint it if needed. The only problem here is the distance between LEDs on the strip and that it might be too large.

Here's a cheap SMD LED strip I bought a couple of years ago.

You can cut it every 3 LEDs but still there's a long distance between LEDs.

The best wide angle through hole LEDs I came across were flat top LEDs, available in 3mm or 5mm, clear or diffuse. If you can't get diffuse ones you can always use some abrasive paper to rub down the LED package to make it less transparent.
