On a local news forum a lady has said that she doesn’t drive. Her husband had a knock in the car, the car is in for repair, and he had to apply for a hire car. In doing so the hire car firm electronically sent him an application form. When the form arrived the signature block was populated with a copy of the lady’s signature. She contacted the hire car firm and they stated that the form was sent out without a copy of her signature. She is suggesting that her signature must have been retrieved from a tablet-pad-signature device when she would have signed for a parcel etc. She is advising neighbours to sign those devices with a squiggle etc.

Another poster suggested that perhaps these tablet-pad-signature devices were actually harvesting signatures.

It’s pretty scary stuff if signatures are harvested. In this case the husband was expecting a form, but it must be for consideration that other forms could be raised – loans, opening bank accounts etc which could contain the lady’s signature without her knowledge.

How is this possible?

This has happened in work so I know what's happened.
Person A goes to sign something on Person B's device. Open's the link and doesn't notice that it's taken to an app/website where Person B already has an account so it's signed in as Person B. They then press the sign button where it's trying to sign as Person B.

More likely the tablet auto filled it in, she probably used samsung password storage or something and it just auto filled the signature part from something she had stored on the tablet.

Signatures are stored. Couple of years ago I ordered a new dell monitor from ebay, which was delivered by parcelforce.

I wasn't at home that day so the delivery man decided it would be a good idea to leave it in the garden (it was raining). Anyway, I'm at work and get an email from them saying it had been delivered. When I clicked on the tracking link, it said it had been signed for by myself, and even had my proper signature

The conclusions I reached were:

The delivery man knows my signature and forged it (unlikely, they deliver to thousands of properties in the city)
Parcelforce IT systems log signatures and somehow the driver can connect the two together
I did sign for it and decided to leave it in the garden, whilst suffering from a medical condition where I develop huge random gaps in my memory
I have the unknowing ability to travel between alternative realities, where in one, I was at home and did sign for it

Is a signature even relevant these days? They are illegible on those tablet devices anyway, and almost every application for everything Ive done except for mortgage is via electronic signature tickbox.
