Replace that with a ATI 4870? if you can afford that. Well worth the upgrade.

Hitachi Deskstar P7K500 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (0A35415)

Get a Western Digital instead, there a lot better drives.

I'd go with Teki187, although if you cant afford to get the 4870, I'd still get a 4850 over the 9800gt, much better card for the money.

I'd be tempted to change the case aswell, maybe go for the antec 300, much better quality and slightly bigger, but the case is purely down to your choice and budget.

I'd swap that hard drive for a samsung F1 drive or a WD.

If you are planning on using this spec with vista 64bit, or even with XP, I'd increase the ram to 4gb, go for a 2x2gb kit, like this one:

Also go for a better CPU cooler if your planning on overclocking, maybe this:

His buget is roughly £550. Top whack he could do £600. This would include shipping costs though. As far as I know he is more interested in playing a game with decent settings, rather than max details and stuff.

I've taken your advice with the ram, but think I'll be sticking with the gfx card for now. The HDD isn't really important, he already has one with XP 64 on it, this is just storage.

Thanks for your inputs =D

Ah, I didn't notice that =D

Okay, I've revised the order, and he seems happy with it. Any last nuggets of advice?

As far as I know he won't be overclocking it, and he hasn't asked me to. The one I chose is a cheaper alternative to the ASF 7 Pro, but still the same socket type. It should be fine for what he needs it for.

If however I am wrong, please correct me =D
