How long are SP 30 (speeding) Points Valid

3 years for totting up purposes, 4 years on license, generally insurers ask for points within last 5 years. At least, that's how I understand it.

Ok I have now got 2 entries on my license:confused: one from 2009 SP 30 and this new on, So If understand you correctly I have totted up just 3 points but have to say 6 for insurance ? WTF is that all about then when can you have 3 points under the totting up rule and 6 points under insurance??

Your insurance company aren't really asking how many points you have, they're just asking what convictions you've had in the last 5 years. They don't care what the points total is really.

Well that doesn't help much - On one hand they say oh it doesn't matter how many points you have, but on the other hand it matters how many convictions you have had? So when you go for a renewal of your premium your saying look I have got 6 points but ignore them I have had 2 convictions!

Or is it the case of look I have 6 points for a one off rather than 2 sets of 3 pointers either way my insurance goes up so why bother having more than one equation.

I am not concerned about the points I have them and that is it, I just dont see why insurance, police magistrates have to make it so confusing with different time limits and restrictions.
