How long before its all over for Vauxhall ?

it'd be a right shame, one of the few manufacturers to actually take some risks and produce proper "peroformance" versions of all of their car line up, from Zafira VXR to the VXR8.

this in a climate where manufacturers are woolying up their performance car lines or dropping them altogether.

I dont see many nissan performance models, nor toyota these days. Ford has some which are pretty decent but that is about all:/

South Wales seem to prefer BMWs for traffic, with the Astras relegated to visiting the scene of a burglary 12 hours after the event and other "be seen to be doing something even though you're not" type jobs. For that type of job, one where you put in just enough effort to get by, a Vauxhall is perfect ;)

I take ack this post, since making it I actually looked a bit closer at the Gwent police cars. No astras at all, BMWs for traffic and Focus saloons for bodding about being useless.

and even then ford are cutting back

no mondeo ST, and they reckon there wont be another Focus RS for a long long while.

Not so sure if the fiesta ST project has been put on hold now too. Honda's type R brand is restricted just to the Civic here (Accord Type R anyone)

apart from the germans, Vauxhall are about the only company continuing to make hot versions of their regular cars (not just selling hot hatches)

Ford did say that the mk6 Fiesta ST would be the last for a very long while. the 1.6 in the Mk7 can get tuned up by mountune making it about the same as a FiestaST tho.

Why would they make another FocusRS when the current one hasnt even been released yet? probably be 5-10 years before the "need" for one comes back, and in that time everyone is probably going to be going Eco mad.

Pretty much every manufacturer will have upped their list price this April, some like VX and Ford have implented 3 price rises in the last 6 months.

This has been due to the extremely weak £ against a strong € while at the same time both weakening against the $ which is what everything is reported in for Ford and Opel.

Its not that it was cut off due to cost, Ford don't want the Mondeo to have a model associated with the image people have of ST vehicles. If anything the Titanium Sport X is pretty much an ST.

As stated Ford are in the doo-doo aswell, Europe has been bailing out Ford US for far too long.

Unfortunately not, FoE don't make enough money to prop up the US at all, if anything it's only FoE's prospects and vehicles which give it a good image against Ford NA. Ford NA has been pumping money in to FoE for decades at a loss.

Unfortunately, all the talk of GM and Opel being in trouble has shedded sales from Vauxhall I think, and the fact they havent got the Insignia up to capacity yet. They ended Q1 2009 with 62,000 sales in the UK, the biggest seller being Ford with 82,000.

Now as a comparator, Q1 2008, Vauxhall had only sold 13,000 less than Ford.
