if you wait a while until the dx10 cards are out, then your gpu will drop in price im guessing quite substantially allowing you to get 2gb of ram which IMO is minimum.

other than that it should all still be ok if you purchase when you said you will.

ill be upgrading to 2gb ram and 2 7950's in SLI at xmas

or

i may get a x1900xt instead of the 7950 and get another a xmas to run crossfire

not 100% sure what to do as the mobo will deffo support crossfire but with tweaked drivers will support sli, but i would rather buy something i know will work (crossfire) rather play about to make sli work

to be honest, it depends on what your idea of up to date is.

yes it will still be fast, and will probably handle most things you can throw at it.

the problem is, DirectX10 is coming out near the end of the year (or beginning on 2007, can't remember which) so your graphics card will already be a generation behind. but then, lets be honest... the only way your going to use DX10 is if your running Vista as well and theres not going to be that many DX10 games ou straight away.

only other thing is that Intel's Quad Core is right around the corner too.

what res do you game at mate?
not many people would really need SLI'd 7950's... if you've got a widescreen monitor running a huge resolution then yes, you do... if you're running 1024*768 then your wasting your money :p

i'd say 2x 1900's purely because they offer better bang for the buck, 2x 7950's won't be used to their full potential. I still say wait until dx10 not to get the dx10 cards but so your will be lots cheaper, then the money you save you can buy a better cpu (quad core?!).

IMO from previous experience dont buy parts only to know you will upgrade again at xmas. Do it all at once then leave it, because by xmas your parts will be cheaper and there will be better parts for the same price. So my advice is figure out what you want, then buy it all at xmas and enjoy it :)

i currently have a 6800NU, 1gb 3200, 3200 AMD Barton. can play CS:S at 1440x900 with medium settings x2 AA and no AF (IIRC)

Brothers in Arms plays well at 1440x900, not sure what the settings are TBH

my 6800 doesnt like doom 3 at high res

i like to play at high a res as possible.
