How long before we see DX10 in action?

I've got my new 8800GTS paired with Vista Premium (complete with DX10) and E6600 CPU.

Now I want to see what it can do!

It would be nice if there were some showcase demos or something we could download.. are there?

Thanks but I've seen loads of vids. I was hoping to download something which I can actually run on my PC - something generated in real time as opposed to vids and pre-rendered stuff.

Have you tried Nvidia's Cascade demo BlackDragon linked you to?

There's also this, it doesn't look much but I guess it's still worth a mess on with if you're using a DX10 card + Vista.

Apart the above I don't think there is any DX10 based games/demos out there at the moment, there might be a few tech demos, but not that I'm aware of.

Apparantly 'Crysis' will be the first DX10 based game due to be released in August 07, but I deffo wouldn't be holding my breath on that.

Tbh I'm just enjoying the extra speed boost I'm getting in DX9 based games, DX10 isn't worth thinking about YET, imo.

Don't think anyone cares tbh, the 8800's are only being bought for Dx9, as by the time Dx10 appears there will be much faster/better Dx10 cards out, so everyone will be getting those for the Dx10 games, 8800's are already out of date, 6 months is a helluva long time in graphics cards, and the 8800's are the slowest ever Dx10 cards you can get, and thats even before Dx10 is here, and they can use it, who knows when a Dx10 game will appear. :)

im sorry but the 8800's are not the slowest dx10 cards out at all. 8500's? 8600's?

and from all the fuss recently over the R600's 'performance' a GTX is said to beat them as well.

im sure eventually there will be vastly superior cards out, but at the moment they are the only ones available, and are the best.

edit: and crysis is dx10, supposed to be out early summer (june/july possible)

Hi all,

I just hope Crysis comes out around "June/July" time so we can actually really see how the 8800 perform under DX10, I don't think we will see the G90 Core until "October/December" time tbh.

XD-3

Yeah my bad, forgot about the mid-range cards like the 8600/8500's etc.... i should have said all Nvidias Dx10 cards are the slowest Dx10 cards you can get before it can be used, or is even here, Just like all ATi's new cards will be when they are released. :)

Crysis is also Dx9.

I wouldn't hold my breath for DirectX 10 games if I were you. Crysis was originally supposed to be out a couple of months ago, also Company Of Heroes and Supreme Commander were due for a DirectX 10 patches etc.

I doubt we'll see a DirectX 10 game (Crysis, Unreal Tournament 3, etc.) on the shelves by August/September.

World in Conflict Sept and its very much almost done so expect it to be on time.
Prob make it out before the ati2900xtx lol

Doesn't make sense - thought they'd use it to showcase the new API. Oh well.
Just checked out a trailer and I wasn't blown away.

All this really makes me think twice about upgrading my system to vista/DX 10 :( I mean I've seen delays and bad launches in the past but this really is starting to take the p*** a little.

Halo 2 is DX10 only but doesn't really use DX10 features. They're just making sure it can't run on DX9 cos microsoft are greedy a**holes. It can run on an Xbox but not on a DX9 card? hah..
