How long can my Q9650 last

At the rate of advancements the pc world, how long will my Q9650 @3.7ghz last till it starts to struggle.

Depends what you use your pc for really. If you're mainly gaming its going to last a good while yet so i wouldn't worry about it at all.

The old C2Q's are as good as Phenom II's so quite a while yet, you just won't have any upgrade path.

Mainly us it for gaming. But had a feeling most games rely on gpu rather then cpu. But really dont like the 4890 so will be looking to replace that with some thing with a bit more power. went from a 4870x2 to that because the 4870 died.

It will deffinatly last aslong as this current generation of i5 and i7 cores... IMO we should see best part of another year before things change dramatically on the CPU front.

There's no big difference between i5 and Phenom II in gaming, Q9650 is similar to them, and it will give you good performance for 2 years at least
