as title really, not talkin about one long stint coz anyone can do that.

I've had about 3 or 4 hours sleep everynight for the past week or so and I think its startin to take its toll. I'm normally used to around 10 hours or at least 8 anyway.

Has anyone else gone for a long period of time without a proper nights sleep? If so for how long?

I've been known to go as long as 5 minutes without sleep.

A ha.

I did 36 hours once, and didnt feel very well afterwards as it was almost all work.
Did 12 hours day shift starting at 6am, went home at 6pm, had my dinner, went back in at 10, unloaded wagons till 6, loaded my van up, did my run till 6 pm.

a one off though is different isnt it? Its like a one off drinking binge compared to a few weeks heavy drinking.

Not looking for any medical advice just wondered how long other people had gone for, I suppose people wiht babies are up and about for around 20 hours of the day, and they're always knackered.

I didn't have a proper nights sleep for about 7-8 years thanks to undiagnosed chronic obstructive sleep apnea. Yes I would sleep but no or VERY limited REM sleep and most days I'd be more exhausted after sleeping than before. It's physically exhausting to sleep and embarrasing to wake up in your own sick night after night without having had any alcohol :)

BEFORE that I think the longest I went with no sleep at all was just over 48 hours, mates kid was born and to celebrate we..... didnt go to the put we played my PCs constant whilst drinking coke and yelling abuse at each other :)

felt horrible for days after that.

I often during the week sleep about 5hrs a night without feeling too bad - I've done a couple of all nighters - but I've never done much mroe than 34hrs on the trot. There's no point you don't accomplish much more by staying up instead of having a bit of a sleep. Sleep deprivation is bad anyway so it's not something you should actively seek to improve on.

Back in my days when I did network support we HAD to get the work completed in a new data center over the weekends. A lot of these weekends meant no sleep at all. I'd guess the worst one I did meant that I was awake from midday on a Friday through to about 6am on the Monday. I make that 66 hours. All on double bubble which softened the blow somewhat after the recoup. I've never been a great sleeper mind...probably since those days.

well I'm a uni student so for a long time I was stayin up til 5 or so and then gettin up around 1 or 2, it seems to have a very different affect on you if its a choice matter rather than somethin you cant help.

We were stayin up at uni talking or drinking or whatever but at home I just cant shut my eyes and then in the morning I feel more tired. Normally up til about 5 and then wake up about 9 or 10, then just lie with my eyes open til 11 or so.

Exercise doesnt help either, I went to the gym on Friday for the first time in however long and I was absolutely shattered when i got home about 2 in the afternoon, but there I was 4 or 5 in the morning.

I'm just glad I've got Jack Bauer to keep me company, that guy is my hero.

4 or 5 days. I took most of my GCSE's without any sleep at all due to insomnia.

yeah me too, I had a royal panic attack then and didnt eat or sleep for a week, that was all psychological though, the day they finished I went and got wrecked and jumped back into normal routine straight away.

Im extremely worried about my girlfriend, she simply does not sleep at the moment. She normally only sleeps 2/3 hours however she is under extreme stress at the moment and is not sleeping at all for days and days on end (7 up) she still lays in bed for around 6 hours but ist awake :(

I had some prescription sleeping pills for insomnia about 2 months back btu I wouldnt recommend them, they were pretty extreme, only took one and I felt like I was draggin a rhino around on my back the next day.

Probably best just tryin to relax her, back massage, bath and candles stuff like that, plus you'll get kudos.

I still get it but not as bad as when i was 13 to 16. usually i miss a whole nights sleep atleast 1 time in a week.

My most was 56 hours without sleep. Not that i was doing anything physically or even very mentally strenious during that time.

Normally get about 4-6 hours a night, but when it comes to coursework/assignments needing to be done i end up having to go a couple of days without sleep.

Did 3 days Straight with a six hour sleep, then another 3 days, for that last week of Uni.

I felt so guilty for sleeping for those 6 hours, had so much work to do. But i was beginning to see things, strange things, and knew i had to get some sleep.

Paid off in the end though, got a first. My fault for being a lazy git for a year.

Strange thing is I never felt more alive than during that week. Under immense pressure, but produced my best work because of it.

Longest I went without sleep is 47 hours, I have no wish to try to beat that because it really does mess you up.
I spent from Friday night till Monday night this past weekend, going to bed at 5am and getting up at 10amish....really confuses you :o

Let's find out!
I feel a competition coming on... from the set start of a thread, every participant posting every hour until we have a winner.
Requires honesty for people not setting an alarm for the hour, waking up and posting, sleeping again, etc , but cheating people would get bored after 24 hours anyway.
What do you reckon?
