Not after ANY form of advice as I know this ones a no-no. Just curious really, how long has anyone had dry socket for after a tooth extraction?

I'm not bricking it MUCH...
My mighty fine dentist said that if I had to have mine out then it would be a hospital op and cut my face open as they are growing under the the other teeth..
Hence I am "dealing" with the aggro for now. :D

What is a dry socket?

Ive had teeth removed but I cant say there was any dryness or sockets involved. After a few days, the "hole" heals up leaving a slight dent. In time, that dent becomes flat.

Dry socket's where the clot that should form in the hole for whatever reason doesnt (in my case I think I hit the mouthwash too early).
I'm on over a week without any kind of healing on it so ill get back in touch with my dentist :)

Dry socket means an instant trip to the dentist, it will last until it's treated. Dry socket occurs when the blood clot falls out after an extraction, and the nerves are left open to the rest of your mouth, it's not a common thing. I had a tooth out last year because an impacted wisdom tooth destroyed it, and ended up with dry socket for about 3 days. The pain spread from the socket, right up the side of my face, I could barely move my jaw, and I couldn't sleep. I went back to the dentist as soon as I could, and the pain disappeared about an hour after he treated it.

If it's actually dry socket and not just normal post-dentist pain, go back tomorrow!

Thanks Vixen - a definite "get it sorted" has cleared that up nicely, have been using the gengigel gel (bonjella/teething gel with a few more active ingredients basically - is meant for helping heal extractions) and the pains all but gone (which considering its nerve pain might be a bad thing!) but still have BIG hole. Ill go get it sorted tmro :)

I was told not to smoke after having my broken in half tooth pulled out, as it would cause said dry socket.

What did i do that evening..... I never got dry socket though, probably due to the tooth and most of the roots dying months before.

I've heard it can be painful.

First day or 2 it stung like a "child who doesnt know who its father is", not been so bad since :)
Gonna go back get it seen to tho - do recommend having some gengigel on standby to any having teeth pulled (but make SURE u follow dentists advice!)

I too had dry socket after having a wisdom tooth out and it was bloody agony. I went back to the dentist several times in the end he put some disgusting tasting stuff on cotton wool and packed it in the hole, the pain relief was almost instant,i had this done every 3 days for about a fortnight. not brave enough to have the other one extracted now!
