How long do licence points remain

Simple question..but i thought it was three years, other people have told me four!

Can someone clarify please.

3 years for purposes of totting up , 4 yrs on your licence

some such as drink driving remain on your licence for 10 years

They last for a total of 4 years.

But can only be included for totting up within 3 years

Yep three years counted, four printed. All mine are now expired, so clean licence at the moment.

But generally asked by insurance companies for the last FIVE years. Scamming ********!

Embarassing to ask..but what does totting up mean?

But basically the points come off the licence after three years..but remain on your record for four?? :confused:

Edit; gotcha. You mean that the points will accumulate with the next set up to three years...but in regards to insurance etc they remain for four...that right?

Totting up is where you gain points. If you recive 12 in 3 years VIA totting up you will be banned for a minimum of 6 months.

no , they count for totting up for 3 , remain physically printed on your licence for 4 ( or 10 for some offences ) and you normally have to declare them to your insurers for 5 trs

after the 3 year period, do you have to request to have it removed or it done automatically?

after 4 years you have to request ( and pay ) to have them physically removed ( unless you change address etc in which case they are autonatically removed if 4 years has passed )

So you might aswell leave them on? Surely its not worth paying for.

Some people like the look of a clean licence. Also means it looks better if you have to show a new employer.
