How long do RMA's take?

Hi there. That is a complete 'How long is a piece of string' question. It varies depending on whether it is sent back to the POS or to the manufacturer, where the RMA department is based etc etc. It would help a bit if you stated what make of card this was regarding :).

It's a BFG gtx 280, the metal brackets near the dvi connections have bent inwards, towards the tv out sockets, not too sure if i should get a pair of plyers and bend it back in place or send it back?

the rest of the card seems undamaged, just recieved it today

Thankns

If it is brand new, came like that out of the box and you bought it recently you should contact the POS (Point Of Sale, not the POS I always think when I see that ;)) and see if they they will swap it out. I have been in similar situations with things like caps broken off cards on arrival before and always got the seller to send me a replacement. BFG returns have been mentioned on here a few times so a search could give you some more info on gueestimate times should you have to go that way :).

If the bending isn't bad at all really and you aren't one of the many 'new generation' metrosexual men who are scared of screwdrivers and the like, you could always give it a go yourself like you mentioned :).

Well here are some pics, its just cosmetic damage really, not too sure if i should send it back as i am eager to play with it.

What do you think, a bit of DIY :)

Personally I would have straightened that up immediatly but that's just me ;). It is entirely up to you but if you have taken pictures and could possibly add a date stamp in to them you could keep them for any return purposes I suppose should they quibble. However, I am wondering what happened to it in order for that bend to have got there in the first place as doesn't look like the lightest of taps....

With the amount of niggles that people have found with the 1st revision 280's I would be in 2 minds in case it is a funky one :(

The package was well protected, 2 layers of bubble wrap, and the graphics card was in bubble wrap too.
But looking at the box, it does have a dent in it, and i can only think after a couple of hours in the van underneath heavier objects, would have gradually bet it more.

i'm still at work, so i'm going to have a go at bending it back when i have time, i'll give it one more good look over to see if important parts may be damaged, but i doubt it.

It seems to be focused on one side, and any internal damage would be hard as the whole card is housed, and i can see no cracks or damage there

I just don't know, that gauge of metal isn't all that weak and the damage looks fairly focused, dropped by one of the packaging monkeys at the manufacturer perhaps before it went in to the box? Not meaning to be negative, I just don't want the blame if you fix it and there are problems down the line ;). Hopefully everything is fine :).

RMA "down the line" then if problems occur

To me it looks like its happened over a period of time, under constant pressure, i doubt a single drop could cause a dent like that, the pics are a bit blurry so you can't really see the detail, that's my conclusion. The box is also damaged in one area only too, so i think that proves my theory.

I think i'll just straighten it, i believe in the strength and rigity of these cards! haha

yeah, i'll send it back if i do have probs, hopefully not though.

If you want to make your repair look as invisible as possible I would unscrew the bracket and straighten the bracket against the corner of a table/work surface if you follow. If you taped up the teeth on the pliers you could most likely do a clean job too with no marks :).

put some card / thick paper around the metal and use pliers to bend it back (so the teeth don't cut the metal)

if it doesn't work when you put it in, send it back, DOA
