How long do you keep your cpus for?

I would guess around 9-12 months, Plan to build another one for myself around december, but if I can pick up a cheap 4800x2 before then, hoping the members market will help me out here :D I wont bother.
I have been very happy with my current 939 socket setup, but realise eventerly I have to drop the AGP card and MB and go PCI-E :(

I upgrade every 18 months to 2 years, just gone p4 550 built Jan 05 to conroe built last month.

Prior to the p4 had a dell which I managed to blow up  which was 18 months old.

I get bored with mine and upgrade a bit after i`ve found the max overclock for the cpu. Just ordered my 8th cpu this year. Its a curse ! as bad as being addicted to some illegal narcotics.

Probably every two or three years. Only when I think its starting to feel its age. I've had :

486SX-33
Pentium 100
Amd K6-3 450
Athlon Tbird 1.33 ghz
Athlon XP-M 2500
Core 2 Duo E6300

But I've probably built twice as many systems for other people (as a favour) over the time.

until the cpu doesnt do what i wnt to do with pc.

3 years last one 2600 to 6300 before that 4 years

Well i upgrade my CPU every 18 months or so, but so far this year I have bought Athlon 3700+, a dual PIII 1Ghz server and last week a Pentium 805 Dual Core processor to build another server with!!

I need to upgrade my main processor to a dual core pretty damn quickly, my server is far faster than my main PC!!

depends on what's out there atm, i frequently change chips purely & simply just to have summat new to play with cos it's a hobby, not a necessity. so far this year it's been Opty148 -> Opty165 -> C2D E6600 in my gaming rig.

in old faithful ( me back up rig ) it's a 30 capper Northy 2.8 that's been in there 3yrs, i'll probably change that 1 day when you can pick up C2D E6300's nice & cheap. not yet tho.
