How long do you leave your butter out for?

Assuming room temp, out of direct sunlight & covered. How long would you be happy to use it for?

I don't, it's kept in fridge unless somebody wants some for buttering then say 10 - 15mins before use and returned to fridge.

Ours is kept in the fridge and taken out before use.

Why?

I usually only use butter for cooking though

Madness. Waking up to toast spread thickly with proper butter is one of the things that gets me out of my duvet in a morning.

And yeah, veg oil 'spread' is horrid. Especially Flora.
