How long do you Prime/Orthos for to determine stability?

(ORTHOS is essentially a dual-core version of Prime in case anyone didn't know, you can get it here)

Bit of a contentious topic this, some people say "it's stable so long as it lasts longer than I would realistically use the computer for in a single sitting" and others say "if it doesn't do 48 hours straight it's not stable". Some people don't even agree that Prime/Orthos is "right" (usually because their systems are unstable and they aren't prepared to accept it :p)

I'm somewhere in the middle on this, I don't really think you can determine stability in less than an hour - as I've seen an overclock die after almost 2 hours.

Just curious to hear what other people think on this? I've been doing a ORTHOS run for about 11 hours now without error, would you say that's stable?

Anything above 8hrs for me is stable. I don't fold so the accuracy of calculations for me to 1 million decimal places isn't as important. I do however like to know that my HD data is not getting corrupted due to a dodgy overclock so if it passes 8hrs on each test (which is what I also used for A64) then thats enough for me.

How I test my setup:
1. SPi 32mb
2. 3d06
3. SnM Long test (not loop)
4. 8hrs of small fft's (I still prefer dual P95 but orthos is ok I guess)
5. 8hrs blend
6. 8hrs large fft's

If any test fails then I don't deem my setup stable. I work through 1 to 5 and adjust clockspeed/vcore depending on pass/fail.

I know this is a very contentious issue and I forsee some heated debates to come :D

This is what I've got so far, just wondering if its ok to cancel Small FFTs now..

(sorry for huge pic)

I would class the cpu as stable with that m8. It could fail 1 minute after you stop it or it could fail 24hrs after you stop it. Personally I reckon thats ok.

Test Large fft's now - usually the hardest test to pass tbh.

On a side note how much more mhz has the vapo given you?

Thanks, that's what I'm doing now. :)

i usually class mine as stable if i turn on prime, orthos, snm, whatever you prefer, when i go to bed, and its still running without errors when i get up in the morning. this also handily means i dont have to lose any time on the computer :P timewise i guess thats between 6-8 hours
