How long do your boots last?

Had spada predator as my first boots which lasted around 4 months before the sole split, the zip broke within about 5 weeks.
got rst tractech evo after them and they lasted around 2 years/28k miles (broken zip/peeling gear change pad) commuting in most weather, although were only waterproof for around 30 mins and then it soaked in.

took advantage of the 20% off code for J&S to order another pair of the rst for £96, most boots don't fit me very well but these are like slippers. i'm looking at ankle boots aswell, but not too sure which to look at or if they'll just look stupid with leather trousers.

I fancy a pair of ankle boots at some point, but I see them as summer 'casual' riding gear to go with kevlar jeans if I want to do some walking and not have to clump around in my big A* boots.

If I'm riding hard enough to need full leathers then it's full boots.

I need to drag myself to somewhere like J&S and just spend the day trying every boot they have, my problem is even if they feel like they fit to begin with after about 10-15 minutes I'll start getting pins and needles in my feet from the boot resting on pressure points.

Stupid chunky feet!

I've had a pair of Sidi Rain Evo boots since 2005, they are my daily wear. Chuck a new pair of insoles in them twice a year and keep them clean, still comfy and waterproof.

Got a few other pairs of Sidis, ST Goretex, Cobra (mainly used on trackdays/summer ride outs) and an old pair of Vertebra boots purchased in '99, altho I've not worn them since 2010.. because I hate throwing stuff out :o

That's where I got my Alpine Stars from, fyi they price-matched Sportsbikeshop.

I had a pair of cheapy Nitro boots (NB-11) for my first 6 months of riding, they held up quite well until I walked a mile or two in them off the bike - instant split between the sole and leather.

I have a pair of Bering Charger ankle boots now, as my calf muscles are comedically large and no shin boots will go round them. Interested to see how they last!

i suse the steel toe cap hymalyan/grafter boots from work.

get a new pair every year, they eventually crack across the back of the heel but the soles get barely worn.

They can chop your toes of in an accident as they're not designed to handle the torsion of motorbike crashes.

in all my crashes they Havant. (and despite this being a common myth cant find one endurance of it happening)

and tbh if you've hit something so hard a boot as been bent right back far enough to force the back of the toe cap through your food (it would be the middle of your foot not your toes) you'd have had the bones smashed to powder anyway.

go get a toe cap boot now try to figure out what bizarro angle (and the amount of prolonged weight/force) would be needed to get that to happen

did however save my foot getting crushed when the r6 went down in the ice the feeler under the foot peg poked through the leather and got caught by the cap.

i miss the old composite ones work used to do though so much lighter.

most impacts ina crash are going to be along the side of the boot as you rool/flail and your feet slap into the ground, the chances of toe poking something head on at an angle where it bends upwards (and your leg is locked in such a way the knee doesnt just bend and alow the boot to be pushed backwards) are so low as to be insane

That advice came straight from an old paramedic friend who had seen it happen. There's no way I'd be taking the risk when the appropriate gear isn't expensive.

Id take it with a pinch of salt andbit being a "friend of a friend story".

Seriously though get a boot and try to figure out how you could even make that happen.

Then think your foot is inside it so it isnt going to fold back and cut in its going to snap your foot in half and bend it back on itself.

When I turned up in steel toe caps for my CBT the instructor told me the a similar thing, something about if you get your foot run over it might cut into your toes.

how often do you put your feet underneath someone heavy enough to crush caps designed specifically to stop crushing injuries?

a normal boot your bones are popping in that case.

Purchased my Sidi Vortice's when they first came out, years and year and years ago! They're still going strong, though I have lost a vent closure bit off one toe, and the soles are worn - but both can be replaced; though I used black tape under the toe slider for the former :D Have some replacement soles to pick up today, so they'll do me (hopefully) for years to come.

My A-stars Supertech Rs lasted the life of my R1 - so a tad over 14K (before I killed it :(), they're still serviceable now, but the white leather is yellowed, and one of the inner boots has a broken clasp.

How much is replacing your soles going to cost? I've been looking at investing it some more expensive boots as I'm now on my 2nd pair of £100 boots which is already wearing through, so my next purchase would have equaled a nice pair of better boots :(
