how long does a domain name transfer usually take?

My question is as per title.

I've bought some webspace from tshost & transferred my domain name over to them.

How long is not long??? I bought the webspace & asked for the domain name transfer on Saturday. I'm still waiting for the webspace to be 'propogated' whatever that means. I've got some temp webspace but my FTP program refuses to connect to said temp webspace.
