How long does a GPU stay in production?

I think that the HD7850 will do a nice job for me at the minute (prob the Sapphire) with a nice OC :D... I'm building a mid ranged gaming rig, with future proofing in mind - so on past GPU sales experience, will I have to dash out and buy another HD7850 before the end of the year to Xfire 'future proof' my setup or in your experience, will they still be available +2 years down the line?

Nice... as a second Sapphire HD7850 should be down in price, as time goes by and the pair will currently storm a top end NVIDIA selection...

Cheers for quick response - previously I had a "panic attack" planning an SLI rig, about the GPU going out of production and overscaled the system buying 2 cards in the space of months :D ...my monitor was almost smoking under the pressure!

GPU's will last until

a) They die
b) You decide to upgrade due to offers, boredom or necessity
c) A new game comes out which you love so much that you want to play in the highest settings and most fps as possible.

But yeh 7850 will do the job for anything atm, until any of the above happens.

Don't panic, unless you want to play at insane resolutions and fps a second 7850 isn't needed for any game atm. When PC gamers stop getting console ports and that will happen when the next gen consoles come out in a year you can think about going crossfire. By that time a second 7850 will be £100 and prices of all cards would have come down dramatically.

...down in price is a 'real time solution' as new generation cards arrive... and with crossfire X (if that's its true title) at least IF I can't source an identicle card - I can find one that will pair up! :)
