How long does Checkdisc take?

Had a error on my external HD x 1TB Fat32
so running checkdisc.

So far it has taken nearly 17 hours.

The drive is three quarters full.

Can it take a while ?

In my experience that amount of time taken would normally indicate the drive is dying, suggest you backup your data, download the drive manufacturers diagnostics and test it.

Also, FAT32?

fat32 as i used it with my ps3 for media use.

So if i was to press cancell would that damage any of my data?

How long will it take ?

Depends on size of drive , for a 1TB drive it should take a few hours

17hours would indicate a potential problem with your drive.

I dont think that canceling it will damage anything , but I cannot guarantee it

Best get your data off that drive and onto a new one

Cancelled it and touch wood, all seems fine. I shall back up now just in case it does die.

Although tried transferring a large (1.5gb) file and only took 45 seconds. so certainly sorted whatever the problem was.

Perhaps they can get 'stuck' who knows

just bought one of these. Formatted as NTFS.

Now just transferring data across to it.
