I don't know the exact age of this model but i know its old and been running just fine since I brought the computer the other week..

Now my problem is I connected my newly purchase 6870 and fired it up and nothing, got everything running, but if it doesn't instant turn off at power button it gives off the impression it's loaded certain load up screens so takes a few seconds to shut off by button..

I put in my 6670 to test things and at first that was same, ended up taking one stick of ram out and fired up which displayed a menu for this particular board so then put the ram stick back in and got in to windows, updated the driver as normal and even got through 3 or 4 tests on the basic edition of 3dmark(not updated yet) just fine..

So back to the 6870, no matter what ports(not display as don't own that stuff) or whether it's TV/monitor/projector I still get no signal..

I got the card from a second hand shop so can take it back to an extent, but if it's my psu then I can't get anything as power hungry, mean surely this card can't be drawing more than the gts 250 I had can it? Both require 2x6 pin which obviously I cover..

The ram is 2x2gb ddr2 1066 corsair dominator so unless they are failing I don't know quite where I stand.. I could use my 6670 but I wouldn't have wasted money on the 6870 if I wanted to do that..

Any suggestions?

Update I may have discovered what's wrong, but no way to test to be sure..

After few times of swapping ram round I took both out and put 3gb worth of 667 I have spare and while I got nothing through hdmi to TV I did get an 'out of range' on my monitor showing 35.4khz/79hz which to me tell Me that the gpu was left in a high setting, but like I say I can't test it as I have nothing set that high..
