how long does it take it to stop hurting...

If you are after a six pack then concentrate on your diet more than how many sit ups you can do a day. Of course, doing this for endurance is good I guess :)

Not my cup of tea though lol. You have over done it to start with though. Start off small.

Also as someone else said, try crunchies ;)

Is it not pretty pointless doing situps?

Plus, IMO, situps is the most over rated exercise going. It really doesn't do a great deal for your ABS, not that a single AB exercise will anyway.

Sit ups actually target your hip flexors, mainly rectus femoris, more than the rectus abdominis ( or abs in laymans terms). If you consider the mechanics of the lift it's effectively a very small contraction of the abdominals, followed by a static contraction and then flexion of the hips.

Windmills, plank, crunches, jackknifes etc will all do more for your core and abs than situps. Though tbh all of these are mere plebians in comparison to squats, deadlifts and OHP.

It's pointless doing them if you're trying to convert a beer-gut into a six pack.

They're still a good exercise, but won't really help get rid of stomach-fat: The thing preventing like 95% of us from having defined abs.

You're much better off doing crunches. Safer for your back and much more focused on the abs. Also don't put your feet under anything, makes it much harder.

No to sound like a keyboard warrior but if you did 75 and you'd never done one before in your life, or at least not recently, you probably weren't doing them correctly, which probably explains the muscular soreness.

I see a lot of people do sit ups and press-ups before bed? Do you do this in hope of getting a bigger chest or a six pack?

If you doing 75 sit ups you really want to be giving your whole body a work out. Arms, legs, chest etc. Do that for an hour then come back and complain you hurt.

You'll be fine in a few days.

day before yesterday i was bored - so did 75situps. never done a situp in my life.
ribs hurt yesterday (near diaphram thingy) and today even worse.... who says exercise is good for you!? lol

Do a google image search for abdominal compartment syndrome. Those sound like the symptoms. You get it from over-exercising.

Eat some eggs or anything high in protein after excercise (or better yet whey shake) - that'll aid your recovery! If you don't use those muscles then what do you expect?

Also most people I've seen doing situps do them completely wrong and end up pulling something.

If you want to be doing 75 of anything then do pushups or some core work such as assume the pressup position but rest on your forearms....... if you do it right you'll last for 20 seconds before your abs start to burn. Repeat 3-4 times and then do pushups. Plenty of good advice about if you know where to look.

My personal opinion on the whole 6 pack thing is down to building core, not how many ab crunches you do.

How often do you see someone with good ab definition without looking proportionately 'toned'
