How long does it take you to boot your PC

my old opteron system used to boot in to windows in 2 passes of the windows bar, no word of a lie. im convinced it was because the board required no chipset drivers other than the usual sound, lan ect. strange but true.

my current c2d take a while, probably just over a minute. but i have tones of software running so its acceptable.

ive got a maxtor 80GB IDE - 5200RPM, dunno whether its worth upgrading to a 120 sata 7200RPM - will i see much of a speed increase in boot up

for the price of them you might as well get some thing bigger. either go for a seagate 7200.10 series or a samsung.

there isnt much difference in speed between the seagate and a raptor

40 Seconds until at the desktop with everything loaded. Waiting until I can afford my X2 6000, then it'll be nice and quick.

bleh i just tried agian it took 28 now :(

About 40 or 45 seconds? A lot of that is the Dell Bios though, it takes a while loading sata and other bits and bobs.

Get rid of those startup things. I haven't run antivirus/spyware/firewall in over a year and have had NO problems at all. Literally nothing bad has happened to my machine. Just takes a tiny amount of common sense. And everything is so much faster. All that loads on startup is WhatPulse (counts keys) and the gmail alert thingy.

Edit: can't give you a time. Machine is on 24/7.

Edit: fine, since css crashed (bloody valve, they 'fix' until it breaks) 43 seconds, xp, opty 165 @ 3hz.
