how long does the ipod touch take to sync with itune for the first time, ive heard it takes ages, some people are reporting 1-4 hours, and one got any other different times???

from what I hear it takes a long long time, think the write speed of the flash used on the iPod Touch is quite low compared to hard drive based iPod's.

Think it has improved with updates for the Touch and iTunes, make sure both are up to date.

Depends on the amount of music and other files. My 8Gb which is about half full took about 10mins to sync everything.

int, I am sorry to say that has to be a lie or exaggeration, doing a restore (wipe) takes about 20 minutes to do its self, the 16gb write can take up to about an hour including restore.

What do you mean by wipe?

I can wipe & re-sync my 16Gb touch (full) in about 15-20 minutes :s

You can put 16Gb of data down a USB connection to a touch in 20 minutes?

BS!

It took about an hour to resync everything back to my iPhone and my iPhone is a lot quicker than my iPod touch when it comes to syncing data, and there was only about 10Gb of stuff to transfer.

Mines got 10gb of music on it, and a full sync takes hours on mine, but my music is all stored on my NAS server which is on a 1gb network link so I'm limited to like 10mb/s on that which is probably the slow down.
It takes about 5-10 minutes from when I plug it in with itunes loaded to when I can actually use itunes tough :( as its syncing and backing up and copying the app's over I've downloaded.
I used to use manual management on mine but I got annoyed with it and just stuck it on sync mode.
The syncing speed does annoy me slightly, esp since I only really boot into windows to use itunes these days.

Why is the iphone quicker to sync?

Sad as I am, I've just done it again to make sure I'd given the correct times. It took ~22 minutes for the full size of the formatted drive (a little over 14Gb). I don't think I'm doing anything different to make it faster :s

I'd like to see a video of this tbh, as its just physically impossible it cannot be done, usb cannot even transfer that amount of data in that time lol

I was under that impression too and just reading up on the speeds it is impossible. So I have no idea what's going on unless some things aren't being transferred properly and I haven't come across a broken track/video yet D:

Got me worried something is broken now haha

hmm, well i wont be much help :/ cus i aint got the ipod touch until christmas :)
what do people think is better 8gb-16gb or the 32gb?
most people go for the 8gb
what do you have??

I got the 16gb, 8gb is far too small imo, esp as you lose ~2gb of space for the OS I think, so mine is only 14gb
