so, i'm thinking of getting into this one during the summer hols... How long is it? as compared to say Max Payne 2, and GTA: SA... Is it worth the hype?

and what's the deal with Episode 1 and Two? are they like expansions or just games that leech off of the original?

It's about 10-15 hours (I think, I did replay through it recently on 360 and it lasted a good while =/) Episode 1 and 2 are Expansions and 4-5 hours in length if you stretch them out, they're single player only and episode 1 is good and episode 2 is great.

I've played through it twice, once on release and once when I bought orange box.

Have yet to play EP 1 & 2, but IIRC they're about 2-3+ hours each and continue the story.

HL2 probably last somewhere in the region of 8-10 hours, if you don't stop to smell the roses.

HL2 is originally very long. But that's because I played it very close together rather than having breaks (and it becomes hard work to finish at that point).

Episode 1 and 2 are like the next chapters in the Half Life book. They are, in comparison, tiny. They're high quality but at the end you're thinking I want the next one. I'm now thinking I want the damn thing to finish!

Took me a few weeks to do hl2, no doubt someone will pipe up and say they did it in 2 hours but playing normally its a good game, set it to hard.
My favourite bit is ravenholm and the mad preacher, the whole game should have been more like that but its all quality
Ive still not played ep1 or 2 or even the original hl despite owning it for years :o

I did complete the original max payne too, I guess they are similar lengths roughly as I cant remember exactly. I'd rate hl2 over max for more variety

I'm almost through HL2 for the first time, which has taken me around 12 hours so far with the help of a guide at some places.
I don't really like single player games, but HL2 has been good and looking forward to playing through EP1 and EP2 :)

Having played through both Max Paynes Half Life 2 (not including any episodes) is probably about the same length as the two of them put together but considering you can put 80+ hours into SA it's nowhere near that length.

play HL1 first, the HL series is one long story (and a good one at that)

HL1 is massive (can easily put 30-40 hours into it) HL2 is more like 10-20, and the episodes are about 6-8 ish each

these are estimates of the first time that you play each game :)

def worth playing

Sarcasm For *** Win..... :o

To enjoy it, I'd say 14-16 hours - depending on your style of play. Some ppl prefer diving in, hoping to survive a big melee and taking it a bit more cautious after dying, whereas i tend to be more cautious all the way thorough - checking places out before attacking etc.

You should enjoy it though - perhaps not quite as fast paced and intense as some more recent shooters, but the variety of gameplay is in my opinion what makes it such a fine game.

if you can do the grenade jumps, and the crate-flying, then about an hour and a half :P

lol, I need to find that HL2 speedrun video again..

Its about 7/8 hours long. Feels slightly longer than max payne 2 but max payne has more replay value because of the different modes. Hl2 just has 3 difficulties that are all variations of very easy and some less then steller multilayer modes like hldm. Get max payne 2 it has a storyline and better graphics :)

No multiplayer but the story and replay make up for that.

I timed HL2 at 21 hours first time but I'm not like most gamers who seem to fly through games as fast as possible, I did linger to try and explore everywhere first time round.

I would also recommend playing HL1 first if you haven't already. Yes Episodes 1 and 2 are like expansions, about 7 hours each for me although people will claim they played them in 3 hours but there are extra little subtleties hidden around if you take the time to find them.

21 hours? Leave it on pause?

I went in every room and looked everywhere it took about 8 or 9 hours.

5 or 6 for ep1 and 2.

There is no depth to these games, they are bog standard run and gun shooters. HL1 only gets remembered and is did a real life setting well instead of being on mars or stroggos or something daft.
