How long should I stress my CPU for?

Hello guys,

I am going to spend the day overclocking my CPU and have tried 4.5 and 4.6 GHz. 4.5Ghz has been running for an hour now getting an average of 65 degrees. I tried 4.6GHz yesterday and was receiving 75 degrees on average but it still wasn't stable.

So two things; how long should I stress test for and what speed should I be aiming for?

What is your CPU?

To be honest prime for 30 minutes then play a heavy game for a little bit is more than enough.

What settings are you using for 4.5?

And my CPU is an i7 3770k with a noctua NH-14.

My mistake before I was at 1.29v.

That's the most simple but ultimately best guide i've seen on overclocking, good find.

Your cooler will have no problems.

1.29V is a good voltage, i presume that was under load? (as read on CPU-Z)

No 1.29v was not stable for half an hour. I am testing at 4.6 at 1.3v. I will finish the test in an hour and a half.

Do you reckon there will be big temperature difference between 1.75v and 1.3v.

1.75v? Oo

The last few hundred MHz are usually not worth the extra heat. My 2500K was happy enough at 1.3v/4.6GHz but to reach 4.8 needed something like 1.4v and loads of extra heat

What temps are you getting? I guess it's not worth getting 4.6 then. I will check it when I get home in an hour.

Max temps in the low 70s under max IBT 20 runs. At anything higher it raced quickly past 80 so I backed off. That's with a CM Hyper 212, a budget cooler by every metric

the questions you ask has already been answered in your other post.so why make another post about the same thing?

people are trying to help you but your not listerning to what they are saying to you.overclocking is a hit or miss.depends on your set up,cpu,cooling etc
you get good chips and bad chips,some will overclock better than others.
their is not a lot of difference between 4.5-4.6 only higher temps and on some chips higher vcore
