AMD have brought out new cards that supposedly support 4K resolution monitors. But how long is it likely to be before we start to see realistic pricing on 4K resolution monitors? and will we see 24" 4K monitors? I dont think many people have a desk large enough for 3 27" monitors for eyefinity...

Consoles have only just caught up with 720/1080 with this new gen. We have games supporting 2560x1440p

So; yes.

Based on the rollout 1080p expect it to hit vaguely mainstream (ie top end) sets in the next 2-3 years.

You won't see an 'affordable' 4k TV/monitor for another couple of years after that.

All of which aside, 4k gaming isn't really a thing yet - only the newest games even support it, and current GPUs won't give you a good enough framerate at that resolution on the latest and greatest titles.

Stick with 1440p now, 4k is 2-5 years away from even high-end 'normal' gamers.

This is an interesting question for me too and in fact why I popped into the monitors section.

I've been looking at the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phone and noticed that it records at 4K resolution, well that's very impressive...but what on earth do you look at it through?

Everything I have is either 1080p or in the case of some Dell monitors 1920x1200.

Aren't there any 4K ready monitors at all yet?

30fps 4k is available for £400 in America on bigscreens but monitors 24" and "32 will be out soon and hopefully around the £500-£1000 mark so for most people that buy top graphics cards on here that's obtainable for normal gamers very soon. 2014.

would they bring 4k support to games if the consoles can't run 4k?

4k is already available in games, some people with eyefinity already exceed 4k resolutions, so support isnt a problem, and it shouldnt be too long before the prices come down, there are already tvs for under a grand, but unfortunately they arent the best quality, but that too will get better sooner than some people think, well in my opinion anyway.

You won't see an 'affordable' 4k TV/monitor for another couple of years after that.

depends what people call affordable, people already spend £1000 + for a 30" monitor, and a few 4k tvs have already been announced for less than a grand, which isnt bad considering it will be the piece of pc kit you will keep the longest, i for one am thinking of the dell 31.5 inch 4k monitor, as i know it should last me 5 - 7 years, which is hell of a lot less than i spend on gpu's in a similar timescale.

Not sure if you guys have seen this but on the Dell website they're doing the Ultra HD monitors already

The 24" is £1200ish and the 32" is around £2.5k or something

Not sure if I'm allowed to post links but if you search for them they'll show up, don't think they show up by just browsing the monitors

Found in the work section

I just came on here to put a thread up on peoples opinions on what to buy for £1000. A 2560x1600 monitor or wait for the 28" UHD Dell
