How long till a price drop?

The reason for them launching at a higher price is they were seen as the next big jump in technology. Something the Wii isn't. If Sony hadve released a overclocked PS2 with a motion controller they couldn't have charged £500 for it.

Yes the Nintendo may well be worth every penny. But the question wasn't wheher it's worth it. Its when a price drop will come. As soon as the core drops the Nintendo will follow suit. It has too.

I don't think it will need to, not if the sales holds steady. It's targeted at a slightly difference audience than the 360, if you want FPS, Sports and more mature games you get the 360. Where the Wii is fun for all the family.

Yeah I suppose that sounds right. Still reckon there is enough fat in there to trim to keep it cheaper than a core by 10 or 20 quid though.

Nintendo have developed a QUALITY product, WHY should they devalue their own product and lower the price? Their entitled to all the profit they can get from this little beauty.

It's ironic people on this site complaining about price, in the salary threads, no one is on under 30k a year and a massive amount of people spend far more than £180 on their graphics card or CPU.

Halve that for me!

Back on thread, the Wii id great value in my opinion. And Wii sports after a quick sneak on my crimbo present off the girlfriend before it got wrapped up, looks to be great fun. A console with a game for £180 is good value and I can see me really enjoying it.

I think it will drop to £150 towards the end of next year, and be bundled up better by easter.

Out of interest on pricing matters how much is a pink PS2? About £130?
Wii seems a pretty good deal compared to that to me ....

And a massive amount don't.

It was said that Nintendo bumped the launch price up from £150 to £180 at the last minute. How ironic, the GC had a price drop before launch, the Wii was the opposite.

But thats not the point, the question was, how long until a price drop, and I think it will be next September/October time, as anything else would either be too early or make it over priced compared to the inevitable price drop of the 360 before Xmas 07.

I think the only way we'll see the Wii drop in price is if people stop buying it in the masses like they are now. The Wi may not have many Wii games on launch but there's a hell of a lot of people buying a Wii now that never bought a Gamecube and there's about 500 games for the cube out there to pick from and many of them are amazing fun.

Why do ppl keep asking this?... The console has only just come out and is in great demand! I would be suprised if there was any sort of price drop until this time next year...

I think at the summer we will see bundles like £200 for a Wii plus extra Wiimote and Nunchuck. Or £200 for a Wii and a game.

I don't mind as I find it amusing :D

Asking for a price drop?! So silly to ask this time of year when it's in massive demands and Wii everywhere in the world are all sold out! I'm still trying to find one.

It may be £20 less than Xbox360 core but it has wireless built-in (£60 wireless addon for xbox) and includes one game.

Unless the 360 gets a price drop then I do not think the Wii will see any drop for some time, and not seeing how its flying off the shelves as it is.

Nintendo I feel have played this one right. A lot of buyers buying the Wii are getting a good deal as it is, but there is a buffer for Nintendo, so if MS decides to drop their prices, Nintendo could perhaps slash and still not hamper their efforts too much.

All round, you can’t help feel its been win win for Nintendo this year, and left Sony in Europe with a lot of catching up to do. Even more so, with the projected launch price of the PS3. Whilst that is a shame, as the PS3 is a console I’d been holding out for, but Wii seems to be providing lots of fun at the moment, and at the price, and sales, Nintendo won’t drop until they have to.

360 is therefore the natural “other” choice over the Wii in Europe, and if you want a next gen console, and can’t afford to stump up for the 360, then it’s Wii or nothing. Nintendo know this, and I feel the Wii is competitive enough already. Too early to assume or project or even speculate any type of price drop from Nintendo.

Perhaps next Christmas, and I’d expect the bundles to be improved before units are dropped in price.

Compared to the rest of the world price-wise we get 'done over'

I did some sums the other day, and worked out we in the U.K. are getting "done" by about 7-8% (or less, what rate duty are consoles?) compared to the U.S. if the price was set in about June/July when the exchange rate was closer to $1.8=£1 rather than the current $1.98=£1.
Part of the reason it looks like we are getting shafted by nintendo with the wii's price at the moment is because the dollar is at a very low point compared to the pound (if the pound had got weaker we could have ended up paying less than the U.S.).

It would be nice if Nintendo adjusted the price to compensate for the strong pound, but then they would probably have to adjust it upwards in a couple of months to keep it pegged to the U.S. price (allowing for vat and duty).

Well, for the Wii:

$250 ~= £127 (According to Google)
£127 * 1.175 ~= £150 (Our price includes VAT, it doesn't in the USA)

So, we pay £30 more!

Now, lets compare the 360:
$400 ~= £204
£204 * 1.175 ~= £239

So we pay £40 more!

Using the same system, the PS3 will be £66 more.

(All RRP)

As a percent, the Wii is over priced, but it is really all thanks to the weak dollar, not that the companies are really ripping us off too bad. Neither are overly bad deals. But then the Wii is Nintendo's most expensive console at launch in the States ever. (Ignoring inflation)

$250 at the excahnge rate in June/July ~$1.8 to the pound
so 250 / 1.8 = 138.8

138.8 x 1.175 = 163 = 17 difference between the overall price at that exchange rate, or about 9%.
If the Duty rate on consoles is say 4.5% then the overall difference is about 4-4.5% for which we get a 12 month warrantee whilst I beleive the States get 3.

The Euro hasn't varied anything like as much as the pound (about 6 cents from €1.25-$1 to €1.33-$1).

Anyone know what the RRP of the Wii is in France?
