How long till immortality?

I know this, hence why I mentioned memories further on.

Imagine putting your Windows HDD in a new PC, Windows knows it's been put into new hardware and adjusts itself, like that. Doesn't seem as far fetched as it might have done 10 years ago.

we already have clones (identical twins) they are two seperate people, you cannot cinvince me a simple clone becomes you... get a doctor to remove the brain and stick yours in and plug it all in correctly... it then becomes you...

i was doing that 10 years ago... dos was fine, WFWG was easy, 95/98 needs a quick bit of driver deleting as I seem to remember...

I wasn't referring to ancient OSes. Win7 doesn't need anything being done.

By the power of Grey Skull....

That's why I said I envision such a thing being possible one day.

I want to travel to space, another planet or the next star system within my lifetime. So until that happens, yes please.

Our civilisation is so fail in terms of space exploration. Wish we would just discover a warp gate on Mars or something!

what ever the exact process its got to be fundermental to how life evolved since you never see a 60 year old looking like and with the same physical atributes of a 20yr old... genetic freaks some times are tiny, some times huge but no one ever lived to 200... or got to 70 and could run like a 20yr old...

Naked mole rats fit the bill. Their life expectancy is about 7 times as long as that of other animals of the same type and size. They don't noticeably age until fairly close to death - same appearance, same vigour, same everything.

Apply that to humans and you'd get a lifespan of ~300 years and not only could get to 70 and run like a 20 year old, you could get to 270 and run like a 20 year old.

Researchers have a very good idea why - it's telomerase. Naked mole rats keep telomeres longer for longer, so their cells can divide many more times without errors. That has the serious drawback of making cancer more likely...but naked mole rats appear to be immune to all forms of cancer. Researchers are finding out why at the moment.

Naked mole rats are a good example of why we should be concerned about the rate at which species are going extinct through human intervention (habitat loss, mainly). If they had been endangered, they would have been a hard sell for saving. They're not cute and they're not magnificent, so few people would have cared if they went extinct. Which raises the question of what species have gone extinct or will go extinct that would have been very useful to humans at some point.

i think that if the human race was more morally mature and could handle a decision like

"live forever or have children and die"

then i think we may have already seen some early treatments.

dementia is a biological process largely resulting from the effects (or side effects) of ageing.... that in time will be cured (in all its forms)

I would assume EVERYTHING has a cure and will be cured unless given a good reason why not...

I don't think there will be a one cure for all anytime soon. It'll be different cures for different aging parts, eventually maybe.

Interesting idea for a film tbh....

Future dystopia in which humanity is (as good as) immortal & to obtain a licence to have a child one of the parents has to die (to maintain the population at sustainable levels).

It could be called.

"Birth-right" - (run's off to write a script & sell it to Hollywood - to star Michael Fassbender & Olivia Wilde as parents to be on the run!, with Ethan Hawke as the agent sent to capture them). :p
