Are the current batch of ADSL routers poorly futureproof given the trend towards high speed VDSL services?

The new Vigor 2850 has both ADSL and VDSL ports, whilst the Huawei Echolife HG612 (the VDSL modem supplied by BT) can do ADSL & VDSL from a single port.
