My brother is thinking of a road trip on a Vespa down to the Vespa factory in Rome. If anyone here has done a similar trip to Italy on a bike, then realistically how many days should he allow to ride each way? He would prefer to avoid motorways and make the riding part of the trip rather than just a means to get there. Thank you.

Let's join him

Work out a comfortable mileage limit per day. Then find nice roads. I'd imagine 4 or more days and 2-300 miles a day maybe.

I've done it in a lot less on my bike but normally that's because either my cat is ill or the roads at the destination are much better so have just gone straight to those.

I'd suggest top of France just get on an autoroute but maybe get off near Vosges area and make the most of that and the Alps bits.
