Got someone coming to change the windscreen on my car tomorrow, what started as a small chip turned into a 2 foot crack whilst sitting in the sun.
How long does it normally take to replace it?
Its a 2010 Renault grand Scenic if that makes any difference.

A couple of hours absolute maximum. Normally much quicker, but it will take a good deal longer for it to set so that you can drive the car at speed.

Took about 30 mins to change the non-heated windscreen on my Golf. Then I think he asked me to wait 1 hour for the glue to set before allowing me to drive off in it.

Only takes an hour or two to change the screen, but usually you have to give it a few hours before it should be driven. Ring up Autoglass and ask.

Took about an hour to change mine. Add a bit either side to have a chat to the Autoglass guy. He shouldn't be there more than a couple of hours in total.

Took an hour and a half to change a heated front screen in a Mondeo, but I was asked not to drive it for a further 2 hours to give the glue time to cure properly.

A couple of hours tops on my heated rear screen with windscreen wiper through the glass.

I was told not to drive for an hour or so, then take it easy for a day, no doing 70 with the windows open smoking a cigarette..

people use windscreens? what happened to the golden days of goggles :(

pretty good now seeing as there's people like autoglass who will come to where you are when it's convenient for you. work mate needed a chip filling in so called autoglass they came during the work day so he just popped out for 5 while the guy set on it...cant remember if he waited with the guy or came back in then went out when the dude was done to lock the car... saying that... it's all external with the chip filling i think so probably just left him to it... end of work day everything would be fine :D

Yes... After having mine done a couple of years ago, I was told that I would have to wait as the windscreen is used as part of the structure that the airbags use to push against so although it would have been ok to drive, if there was an accident, the screen would have just been pushed straight out nullifying the effectiveness of the airbags.

In the end it took an hour, with a further one hour wait to let the glue dry.
I'm glad I don't have to pay for it, the Autoglass bill was £779.92!

Bill for my Mondeo screen was £1600! That was heated + solar reflect though. Thank god for glass cover with small excesses!

My guess is that insurance companies cut their losses with windscreens, because a windscreen blow out on a motor way would result in a massive claim due to the loss of control and subsequent pile up it would cause.

It works out in favour of the driver for a change, but be under no illusion, it to save money for the insurer in the long run!

Changed the windscreen on almost every car I've had under insurance - a bargain at £50-70 and is much nicer to look through one without scratches and other tiny chips on that catch the sun.
