How long to clear cmos?

Theory says 10 to 30 seconds. Manuals say similar. In practice, I've known 5 minutes on stubborn problems, even 2 hours on one board (But that was a rarity due to a busted m/b anyway). So, folks, what is your real world experience here? How long do you leave the short on and the battery out before you are convinced, truly certain it is cleared?

Reason I ask is because many newcomers, I suspect, trust the manual times stated and don't try for longer. Hence more returns than really necessary. Just a hunch, that's all.

5 seconds, no short. I guess it would be board specific though. 30 minutes would be mighty annoying if you were doing overclocking and putting it too high.

I tend to use the short pins options and find is pretty instant, espicially when I accidentally hit the clear CMOS switch in the the rear I/O ports :(

I tend to use the jumper pins and leave it for 10 seconds ono. Though i did have an msi 939 board that used a button to clear cmos, hit that unintentionally a few times. The jumper pins on my current board are a nightmare to get at though. The clrtc pins are located alongside the memory and cpu voltage override pins. You need fingers like a 2 year old to get at the right one.
