My mate wants to go in the army as an officer or (if he can) the paras. The times he needs to be able to run 2.5km are the following

Army officer - 2.5km in 12 minutes
Paras - 2.5km in 8 minutes

Ive just been at the gym and managed 2.5km in 10 minutes 40. Started at 14km/h then went to 15 and for the last minute or so 16.

Of course in army/paras you will need to do it with all the gear and a treadmill needs to be on 0.05 incline to be flat but I thought i did quite well.

What can you do 2.5km in?

I should have probably stuck this in fitness instead of GD judging by the stupid answers.

If 2.5km is 1.55 miles, how long did I manage to run a mile in?

Requirement of 8 minutes for 1.5miles? Guess this is without any kit?

I'm around the 7:40 - 7:50 mark for 1.5miles on a good day.

thats damned fast, you must be just about sprinting to get those times. Yeh, its probably with kit you need to run 2.5km in 8mins

RAF is 1.5miles in under 12minutes

woo hu, im in!

Nah, im not training for paras or RAF or anything. My mate is in the police and is trying for an army officer job or paras, but he said its so hard to get in paras.

He obviously got his info wrong

if anyone missed it when i said before, A treadmill on 0 incline is like running slightly downhill. It has to be on 0.05 incline to be running flat

Army officer isnt 12 minutes its 10:30 actually. I do know :).

Paras isnt 8 either its sub 9. He needs to concentrate on other things than getting sub 10 at the minute such as maths current affairs and leadership (which your either good at or your not).

Im nearly done in the process of joining as an officer. If he wants any advice etc pm me.

yeh, he said they recommend you reading the paper everyday for a year or something as they will give you random questions about current affairs

off to gym again in a bit, ill do a small warmup then power to 14.5km/h and see how i last. May do a small row again after and then chill after my hard day at uni. (less that 1 hour) :p

come on!!!

Just been to the gym.

Walked 30mins there (about 1.3miles)
500metre walm up at 12km/h
2.4km in 9 mins 50
2.5km in 10 mins 15
1000 metre row
8km on bike in 15mins
sauna :)
swam for 30mins (around 35 lengths)
walked home, detour past ladbrookes, went from £3 to £12.70, then back to £0 :(

If i keep this up i should loose my handles and man **** in no time (obviously beer doesnt help much though)

I feel is harder running on a treadmill than road running, is this the same for everyone?

not me. I hate road running, my legs are fine but my feet get a bettering on treadmill. Ive tried other trainers and my lonsdale slipper type trainers seems the best to stop blisters but feet still hurt a bit
