I am getting a bit worried as DirectX 11 is coming out in a couple of weeks, which means DirectX 10 will be out of date soon. Doesn't it?

How long will it be until DirectX 10 will be out of date? As I am getting a new DirectX 10 card soon.

Before you say, I am not going to buy a DirectX 11 card because they will probably be too expensive.

PS: When the DirectX 11 cards come out, will the DirectX 10 cards go down in price much?

its like l4d, l4d2 is coming too early (should be an update patch rly) directx10 was supposed to be this great leap in every aspect but directx11 is now the new lead.
well considering theyll be mainly aiming at their new directx11 cards id say theyll stay the same or go down slightly.

So, how long will it be until my DirectX 10 card won't be able to play games anymore, as it is out of date?

Mate, you are worrying over nothing, it will take a while before DX11 is fully implemented, so your DX10 card will be good to go for a long time yet I would imagine.

It will take the games industry a minimum of 12 months to get into the full swing of all DX11 features - so the DX10 cards won’t be ‘out of date’ for months yet.

But, remembering that DX10 cards will still be able to play DX11 games they just wont be able to utilise the DX11 features - so ‘out of date’ is a relative to the user.

If your intent on getting a DX10 then you won’t notice the lack of DX11 for quite some time - by which time DX11.xx will probably be a knockin' and you may be considering another upgrade…

DX9 cards are still rocking plenty today, I can't think of a single game that won't run on a DX9 card.

You may lose some of the shiniest effects, but a DX10 card will last you 2-3 years easily. I'd wait to see what happens with the new cards this month.

Thanks for your replys. :)

I'm glad the card I will buy will last more then a couple of years.

Well I'm still running a 6800 GT agp card.
Looking to upgrade my whole system now, but it' still not to shabby.

Im waiting on these cards to but im also waiting for windows 7 to as i would much prefer to have a copy i can hold in my hands to install instead of a burnt CD :). So thats about october so in october i will see what there is to offer i dont think i will go i5s as i want tripol channel memory.

Why?

The main advantage of the current i7s is hyperthreading, and having a socket that will be able to take the Core i9.

Don't know yet. The 5870 probably won't be 'cheap' per say, but they're going to be releasing budget models as well. 5670 is what i'll be looking at, and since the performance of these cards is roughly 165% of their 4*** series equivalent then that should be about the same as a current 4870/4890, which isn't bad at all.
