This is my PC rig. how long will it last before I need to upgrade? I use my my pc for games, 3D rendering, general PC use. Can I get 3 years out of this PC?

I'm not a hardcore gamer and I do 3D rendering as a hobby. I'm a 23 year old journalism student.

CPU: AMd FX 8350 4GHZ
GPU: AMD 6870
RAM: 8GB Corsair Dual Channel
Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 R2.0
PSU: XFX 450W
Samsung 830 128GB SSD
500GB Wester Digital
OS: Windows 7

with what you do i'd say a few more years easy, if you don't game etc

for most psu is fine if your not adding to hardware
hdd is small but if not full no need to change it
rams plenty for now
cpu is plenty fast enough for rendering etc
gpu is plenty also as will work for what your using it for

so for me upgrade nothing unless you think your pc is slowing down, and then just re format it as that will speed it up some

You'll get 3 years out of it.

Mine is a similar "level" of spec from about 4 years ago (if that makes sense? I spent about the same amount of money at the time), and mine still has plenty of go left in it. It handles everyday web/office etc tasks with absolutely no problems, still feels nice and snappy even without an SSD. The only bit that is slow is the startup, which you won't have a problem with due to the SSD.

I upgraded my GPU after 2 years to one which cost about £130, and looking at your rig, that's probably the only upgrade you'll need to make if you want to keep up with moderate levels of gaming. To keep up with the latest and greatest games you'll need a bit more, but for your usage you'll get at least 3 years out of it.

Mine is 4 years old now, and I'm confident of at least another year of moderate gaming and normal everyday media/office use out of it, and then giving it to my mum for another couple of years of office use when it starts to be too slow for the level of gaming I enjoy. Even then, unless I get a major hardware failure I expect the core components to become a home server for another few years.

Potentially years. I have a PC with parts still from 2007 and it plays all the latest games fine. Depends what you want it to be able to do.
