How long would you leave it?

I applied for a job online on the 25/06 (the closing date was 27/06). I received an automated email response a few hours later stating:

We are currently receiving a high number of applications and therefore it may take some time to screen your application for the position you have applied for.

Please do not call the recruitment team to check the status of your application as you will be notified via email.

So, how long would you leave it before chasing it up? It specifically states not to call the recruitment team but it has been a very long time now.

I got my job by harassing agents.

Sadly we're no longer in the times of "wait and see", we're in the times of "be there at the right time".

You're going on for two months, odds are the role's been filled, but to put your mind at ease, call them.

I think the standard these days is that unless you're successful most companies won't respond at all.

In fact a lot of agencies seem to put words to that effect on their automated emails.

I just called and was greeted by an automated message stating it should generally take 4 to 6 weeks to contact me after application. 6 weeks was Friday just gone so stayed on the line to speak to someone and got message there is no one to answer the call and leave a message and they will get back to me. So here is waiting game number 2!

I am never sure in these situations, do I take the stance of well they clearly don't think I am suitable for the job, or do I ring to see what in particular they felt wrong with my application if that makes sense. :)

You could always ring up and ask why you didn't get it and then you either get some constructive feedback or they turn around and say they still haven't decided yet :p

Sadly that's the way its going. When I was applying for jobs I was surprised when I actually got a rejection letter, most never come back to you.

I've applied for an internal position 4 weeks ago...... still not heard back but hopefully this week having spoken to the advertising party.

It can be legit, I once applied for a job and didn't hear back until nearly two months(iirc?) later when I was called in for interview. A couple of other times it has taken a few weeks to get a rejection email.
