Hi,

My xbox seems to be really loud on the dashboard just idling. It is a falcon chipset but still has a very loud fan hum whatever you are doing. It does not sound like the fans are slowing down much when idle from when playing a game. Is this normal?

Thanks

i've got a quiet onie (doesnt seem to be the norm:p)

the drive is noisy though, but with everything installed to the hard drive it rarely gets used :)

Yeah noise levels do vary quite a lot, as mentioned best thing to do is to make sure you install all your games, that way you don't get the DVD drive spinning up aswell every time you play a game.

There are 3 types of fan fitted to the 360: Nidec, Sunon and Delta. The Nidec fans are the quietest but are useless dealing at with heat, Deltas are the opposite end of the scale, they are loud but cool the best. I guess you have Deltas.

The deltas wouldn't be so bad if they stayed at the same pitch, but no, its:-

eeeeeEEEEEoooooEEEEEEeeeeeEEEEEEoooooo

The whining little cow has outlasted my 60gb PS3 mind you.

Okay, sounds good. Just to double check, is the air coming out of all of your XBOXs warm even on dashboard, after 10 or so minutes?

When my RROD warranty expires I think I will put some quiet fans in.

I can see through the grill they are deltas, had a listen and it was actually my PSU making the irritating fan noise, that's been hidden from sight and sound and now the deltas are whirring loudly but not obtrusively.

Mine seems to make my TV wobble ever so slightly which make a loud humming noise. Ah well, got used to it anyway.

Mines Whisper quiet compared to my PC but then my PC sounds like a Hovercraft. :o

I have had a bit more of a listen and there also seems to be a sort of buzzing noise coming form the front half of the XBOX. It is a very distinct buzzing noise that changes when you do different things, it seems to be loudest on the "My Xbox" tab of the dashboard. Anything 3D seems to set it off. If you have ever had buzzing from a monitor, that is what it sounds like?

Any cause for concern or is this what you get from cheap mass produced consoles?
