i want my Vcore voltage to be low as possiable at 4ghz so that i can keep temps down what Vcore is best at that clock or shall i reduce Vcore little by little and test in Prime and when it BSOD or restarts on me i have reached my limit???

[edit] i ran at 4ghz and my temps in 4min in prime went up to 90oc!!!! thats with a true heatsink in push pull config...

Just keep lowering it until its unstable and nudge it up one and run long test, 90c is not a good though!

weird

i ran a clock of 3.4ghz at vcore of 1.2volts and Large FFTs in prime pass no probs... but when i up the clock to 3.6ghz at vcore of 1.26 the small FFTs pass no problem but the large FFTs fail in 5 to 10 min... what could be causing this?? (fail mainly thread 1 no crash no BSOD)

as i crank up my clock ram also increases and as i take it large FFT's test some ram....

what do you think would be the next stage of action???

running memtest on 3.6ghz for serveral passes (if that passes) and then checking Large FFT's in prime if it fails then thinking of increasing the ram voltage up a wee bit (maby cos ram aint getting enough voltage cos small FFT's passes hence Vcore and clock freaquency is not the problem at 3.6ghz)??? any suggestions more than welcome...

Not jumping up 200mhz at a time is my suggestion. Go up in far smaller increments and you'll have a much better chance of working out where the problem lies.

I suspect you are unstable because the system is too hot, but I don't have an i7 myself.

its asking a lot on air cooling in my opinion, i tried the same with my true 120 with high cfm fans push/pull config and decided to drop it to a safe 3.6ghz, unless you get better cooling which im thinking of doing i personally wouldnt bother with the extra 400mhz :D

mines idle temps sit at 44c with a core volt of 1.264,but running prime is my main problem at minute its going way past 90c to hot for my liking so i cant do a prime or linux testing as i will go into meltdown

To much TIM,bad seat or just bad cooler mate, i get 44 idle and 3hrs of prime @ 4.0Ghz breaks 71c in this weather (well 2 weeks ago) and thats at 1.31vcore

aye im gonna retry seating it with less paste if that dont work i be looking at bigger fan or something coz its seems everyone else bundle can do prime ect well at less temps.

...

right now im back at 3.4ghz per core im not going to clock to 4ghz as my cpu runs too hot and im not going to take the risk but i am going to try to get it up to 3.6ghz stable (as 3.6ghz is failing in large FFTs in Prime)

[edit] big bruiser how did u get those temps mate how did u apply ur thermal paste the method i bought a whole new heatsink and still the same temps...

Your cpu doesn't "run hot" as such, they're all similar. It's more that you need to sort out your cooling.

What fans on the true? What way around are they? Photos of the case so we can assess your cable management please. What case fans and where are they.

The 295 is hot, and I think blows heat out both ends. Can you move it to a lower pci-e slot, further from your processor.

Dont give up so quickly :)
