Morning all,

An extermely generous friend has sent me his old Vive Pro and Valve Index Controllers but I need to procure the base stations as he of course needed to keep them.

How many base stations do I need to start off with? Is one enough or do I really need 2? My PC is in the spare room at the moment so space is quite limited and realistely I'll be starting off with 'seated' VR games.

The next question is, what base stations should I get? HTC 1.0s / 2.0s / Valve Index?

Thank you!

You only need one for seated experiences if you're not using tracked controllers. However you really need two to make proper use of the Index controllers. (You'll keep losing tracking - I noticed this when I accidentally turned one of my base stations off.)

Get V2.0 base stations. You can actually buy them from HTC which might be quicker as there are delays getting VR stuff from valve, but I don't think they come with mounts and the cables are shorter than Valve supplied ones.

Thank you, seems like 2 is the best option really and when I finally build my garden office I can chuck in a 3rd/4th for full body tracking!

Looks like I've found what I'm getting for Christmas this year!

2 stations should cover 360 space. The body tracking thing is more to do with attaching either tracking pucks or strapping vive controllers to the legs, waist or whatever.

Last i heard Vive trackers were a bit of a hot ticket, so source sooner rather than later. Make sure if you're going with the V2's that everything you do buy is compatible.

One Version oone HTC Vive Basestation will be fine. There are people that say these are more reliable and some that dont. But you can get away with any. For the record the Vive Pro came out before Valves and HTC version 2 and they shipped with origional controllers n base stations. One is plenty for seating two for room scale. Though one will work, you just will lose a bit of tracking when you turn away or your controllers are blocked by your body, not really any much different from say a Rift S.

I wouldn't recommend just one lighthouse. If you lose lighthouse tracking it doesn't just glitch - it blanks out the entire screen grey which is really annoying.

I have accidentally run with one lighthouse and it sort of worked but glitched far more than when I had a two-sensor Rift setup.

I ran a vive with one and two lighthouses, using only one is fine although you will get occlusion if you turn away from the sensor so as long as you are facing the sensor you will be fine.
