How many car accidents have you been in?

Been driving approx 15 years,

1) My fault, driving my Managers company car - turned right off a small sideroad without indicating after spotting a parking space - hadn't seen a car appear from behind and then try to overtake me ...was spretty minor though

2) My fault, very dark, going too fast, hit standing water at the bottom of a hill and ripped the front bumper off my Escort Van - scary moment, again, pretty minor

3) Not my fault, hit up the jacksie by a white van on the M4, conditions were icy and he was quite simply too close, I had to brake because someone pulled in front of me, he couldn't stop, again - minor.

2 very minor ones.

1 as a passenger. A coach tried to squeeze past my dads car and dragged itself down the whole length. Worst bit of that was chasing the guy down as there was heavy traffic and road works so by the time my dad got turned round he was out of sight. Couple of wrong turns but in the end he managed to stop him

1 in my car. Woman just backed clean out of a parking space into my back wing.

Had a few scares with no damage-

Lost the back end over a hump in the road (going too quick) and car slid up the road sideways.

Locked up approaching a corner (too quick again) and went straight off onto the worlds biggest grass verge. Slid to a halt in the long grass with a car covered in slugs :p

Had an artic pull into my lane as I was in the process of overtaking it = huge lock up at 80

Had a car stop in the outside lane to have a look at an accident on the otherside of the road = huge lock up at 70

I have been driving for around 8 months or so now and have been pretty lucky!

I've had plenty of those "OH NOES" moments, mainly due to silly drivers on the roads! But the best one has to be when it was raining, I was sitting at some cross roads and pulled away too hard, ended up spinning and put it into second and done something stupid liek turning into the road at the same time....Ended up drifting round it and nearly loosing it, luckily no one was around at the time as it could have been nasty!

Oh well, learn from my mistakes :D

Only been in one accident. Passenger in a 306gti-6 and felt the wrath of lift off oversteer.

Rolled 3 times in a hedge before the car stopped on it's side in a ditch about 1 metre from the biggest tree on the road (about 1.5m in diameter  )

Been driving 19yrs 11months :) and had 2 non fault accidents and 1 fault.

My only fault accident was 18 years ago, driving my friend home one late evening in the fog, I misjudged a bend, understeered a little, over corrected and clipped the back of an oncoming car. Minor damage to both cars, total claim was about £450, all settled amicably.

1st, my old cortina estate (free Piece of ****), driver decided that the stop sign ar a T junction did not apply to him, pulled out and T-boned my car. killing it.

2nd. My VFR800, riding back from a breakfast meeting, I proceded around a sharp left hander about 25mph, when the oncoming car has decided to cut the corner off, crossing double white lines and spanking me head on. Many many broken bones, no longer able to support a bike (biggest :(), and a lifelong knee injury, meaning surgery every 3 or so years.

How on earth did you manage to get your car off the ground for 30 metres?????!!!!!
it was an undulating backroad that drops away at an angle of 30 degrees or so. by the time I hit the apex I'd only had the double decker in view for a second tops and could only scrub 10mph or so from my speed before all four wheels left the ground.
it was more to do with luck that nobody was injured (i had 5 people in my car).

moral? don't act like a crappity smacktard behind the wheel.
its not something I'm proud of.

Compensation didn't exist back then, assuming it was a while ago! :p

The accident was Oct 2001.
Oh yes it did, serious injury claims have existed since I have been driving. The culture has changed though, and the number of TV avderts has increased. now you can claim whiplash for someone farting in your direction.

It was all dealt with by the insurance company, and I did get a payout for current injuries, and the lifelong condition. It took about 16months for the claim to be dealt with fully though.

A thread in GD got me thinking about how many car accidents i have been in, whether your fault or not. At the age of 21 i'd have to put the figure at 10+ already, and being involved in 5 write offs, which i think is quite high for my age?

Not many have been my fault, ive written off one car and substantially damaged my company car, but thats it. The rest have all been while with friends. Most recent accident was actually while in Fox's 530i i think, not very serious but caused a lot of damage to the car.

Whats everyone else's accident history like? :)

All I can say is, please, please, never let me be in a car with you in it.. I appreciate you where hardly ever driving in these accidents, but kiss of death springs to mind..

LOL ;)

I was only joking :p

I originally put "Compensation didn't exist when TV was black and white", then realised that I didn't know when it happened :)

I aint THAT old ;)
Although I do remember having a B&W Telly, and getting the all singing colour one at an early age!

"Only" damage a "bent Towbar".

HIGHLY UNLIKELY.

I imagine you have done severe damage to the Tranist's structural chassis. I imagine it's pretty unsafe now.

I hope your friend has been caught on CCTV and also traceable from the ATM transaction.

******* **** for not telling the van driver. What a *****!

One when I was a learner, pulled out turning right through traffic without checking properly.

None since *touch wood*

EDIT:
Been driving 3 years, my accident was over 5 ago

Reckon the damage could have been that bad? There were dozens of witnesses, it happened in front of the bloody resturant. Someone has bound to have got the plates of both cars. But i agree, the driver should have told the van driver. Don't think he saw the van driver though, until he got in the van.
