How many channels with this TV-card?

I have sky at the moment, and its around 50 quid a month. I think im going to stop paying it as its getting too exspensive, so I was just thinking if I build a cheap media pc and buy a satalite tv card, then I will get most of the channels that are on sky without needing to pay 50 a month.

Pretty much, yes.

Of course you can tell sky you want to cancel and switch to freesat,

They may offer you a cheaper deal, or a free sky+ box to keep you as a customer

If you decline, I don't remember if they send you a new card, or just downgrade your account, but essentially, you can still use your old sky box to view freesat (Providing you're out of your contract period.)

u will get all free to air chancels which means u will receive all freesat chancels and some other chancels that freesat hasn't got. total is about 150 -200 channels including freesat chancels which is about 87 chancels...

u get all sky freesat (sky free to air) channels and u get all bbc/itv freesat channels..

Edit: When you hook up the sky dish to the pc card, do i need to do anythign to the dish? change anything on the reciver bit, or move it to point in a certain direction?

nope. if the dish is already setup u don't need to move it.

btw u can't connect your sky set top box and the pc card to the same LMB

I also noticed that on Freesat there is only one or two sports channels, the only thing i watched on sky was sports channels. Is it possible to just have setanta or pay just for Sky sports Or does sky not allow this?

One more thing :) I notice that the WinTV-CI does not support the WinTV-NOVA-HD-S2, is there a firmware fix for this or is it just not compatible and if it isnt compatable is there another "WinTV-CI" (another manufacturer) that is compatible?

Hmm. When we had Sky installed we had one box in my sister's room, one in mine, and a Sky+ box downstairs. Does this mean I have a quad LMB and should be fine?

Sorry, I don't mean to thread hijack. It's just I'm thinking about getting the Hauppauge DVB-S2 card also :)
 
Yes, you'll have a quad LNB, as I believe sky+ needs two.

But what are you trying to achieve? You'd only be able to replace one of your sky boxes with a PC running the sat card.
