Hopefully a simple question.

looking at get this mobo

Is it best to get 2 dimms or do you need 3? Basically my question is what does the motherboard CPU and memory prefer.

Would be looking to get 8GB. What is a good compromise speed. Not looking for the fastest machine in the world but would rather the ram is not the limiting factor.

Thanks in advance

You can run a dual channel configuration or a 3 channel configuration - i.e. you can either double or triple the original memory bandwidth.

Personally, I would take advantage of the 3 channel setup as the board offers it. If you're a gamer then a 6Gb would be enough and the XMS3 tri set at £59 is great value.

But if you're looking at a min of 8Gb you would need to consider 3x4GB kit for a tri channel set up - which is ~£109.

Howevr as your not looking for max speed you could consider running a dual setup for while with 2x4Gb XMS3 and then get a thrid stick of 4gb when your more flush...

Basically, tri-channel (3 sticks) is faster as it runs a triple the original memory bandwidth.

What will you be using the computer for?

Thats great. Had already thought of the XMS3 set so glad to see i'm on the right page.

It's great value and quality.

What will you be using the system primarily for as there are cheaper setups/options out there for similar benfits depending in your usage?
