Click to expand... You can still get a transient over voltage on your line caused by something else connected to the same transformer you're on I believe. Doesn't always have to be a lightning strike that causes the damage. A fault in a buried cable can also cause it to happen but that's a bigger issue for your network operator to sort out. They are very rare though but for the cost it's worth having some form of protection on expensive devices.
