Just looking to get a rough idea of expenditure really.

Yes, I am still a bus ******, but looking to end that nickname asap :D

Well, to be honest I haven't actually taken a bus in about 7 years, my work is a 10 minute walk from home so I've never really had the need to.

And I have a girlfriend who drives me anywhere further. So emasculating!

Although times are changing, looking to buy a new house which will involve a commute to work which would be much easier via car.

For some reason I always assumed people had like 40-50 hours, hearing that most are below 20 is good news! :)

Well, my partner has been driving for 3 years now so I can potentially be insured on hers and learn with her also.

Is it possible for me to practice lots with her, and then only take say 10 hours of actual lessons?

Do this. Forget the lessons entirely until you are driving around (with her) without even thinking about it, like a normal driver would do. Make sure you always drive when you need to go anywhere which doesnt need to involve a motorway.

Then get a couple of lessons once driving is a non issue to you as i did. All they need to teach you then is how to present your driving to the examiner which will take a few lessons at most.

Ok cool. Sounds like a plan.

Just to be clear, it is legal for me to drive her car on a provisional with L plates aslong as she is present?

No problem, this is a much better idea than spending countless hours learning the basics of how to drive with an instructor. It doesnt need tuition as there is no skill to normal driving, it just needs practice and confidence building. :)

Appreciate the advice mate. Will hopefully save me a fair amount of cash.

Well thanks for the advice everyone. Going to start learning with my partner this weekend. Hopefully do about 6 hours per week for the next month or so then look to book in some proper lessons to get me test ready!
