How many can you sync with one iTunes account (on the same machine)?

Is there a limit?

I'm thinking of them in an educational environment.

I believe its a max of 5 devices.
I may be wrong though, its just what comes to mind.

Ye, you can use 5 devices per account. Inlcuding iphones, ipods etc so.

Well its just in store purchases right? So like the ipod nano which doesn't have app's and stuff like the other devices do could be taken of from the account and maybe put on another account if needed. Though if you buy your music from itunes and videos then you can't.
Plus what else would you buy next ? Another iPad ?

the apple T&Cs for itunes states the following:

You shall be able to store Products on five iTunes-authorized devices at any time.

But the only things that require authorizing in itunes are computers. Portable devices such as ipods, iphones etc.. do not require authorisation.

So yes you can sync 40 ipads no problem. Essentially as the ipod/iphone/ipad is a closed platform apple are confident in the security of. They are happy to let you have the media on it, confident (misplaced or otherwise) its not going to end up on the torrents.

should have known that as every time i restore my pc it ads another 'authorization' onto my ipod touch

Stuff purchased from iTunes (apps, music, movies) can go on five devices, your own music you've acquired elsewhere can go on any number, you can sync any number of devices to one machine (one instance of iTunes, if you will)
