I believe he was referring to someone FRESH OUT of college, not someone who's been out of school and working for 20+ years.

Oh, and A.S.E. certified master mechanic in all 5 areas.

Why am I not a shop mechanic then? Because over here, unless you own the shop, you're making squat as a mechanic.

See, on a programme over here in the UK i heard much different? It was on Working Lunch on BBC2 and they were visiting an Englishman somewhere on the East Coast of the US (can't remember where, sorry) as he'd started his own car repair outfit in the 90's and was now earning mega bucks.

He said that he paid his mechanics £30,000 (they were talking in sterling) a year plus a health and dental plan. Now i really don't know how much mechanics earn but to me it sounded pretty high

College taught then someone who is an apprentice is different. As an apprentice you gain experience in work then goto collge for some useless info (well thats all it is:p) If you are just college taught you will be able to talk a good job. Not do a good job. Where i work we got a lot of electrics and computers. We even have to use the computer software now to reset the brake linings after we change them! :o So it wont be long before you have to take your vehicle to a main dealer.

I did a BTEC in motor vehicle engineering in my teens. However I must confess other than change oil and brake pads, I really would struggle to to anything on a modern engine.
