How many MP3s on a disc?

700mb CD= ~170 tracks @ 128kbit CBR (godd for listening in car/mp3 player). recommend 160kbit+ for archiving, etc

If you're really bothered about quality, use the "--alt-preset standard" command line with the lame encoder. This is an extremely good VBR mode which averages out at a little over 192kbps with little to no redundancy. It's by far the best mp3 encoding scheme available.
 
^ seconded. It's the bang for size setting IMO.

[Though for archiving, I still go lossless - but APS is very nice for music on the go]
